Installation of the Eleventh Head of School, David G. Perfield
Posted 10/29/2018 12:49PM

Fall Family Weekend is always a huge crowd favorite, but add the installation of a new head of school to the mix, and you really have a celebration!

Parents, family, and friends arrived on campus on October 12 to experience a day in the life of an Oldfields student. Those of you who were able to attend know it is a real treat to attend all six classes with your daughter, and to meet her teachers, advisor, and, of course, her friends!

This year's crowd was larger than ever due to the installation of David Perfield as the new Head of School which took place in the gymnasium at 11 AM. Remarks from Head of Waterford School Andrew Menke, a mentor, friend, and colleague of David's from New Hampton School, made us laugh with stories of David's performances for students (singing Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash!) and made us proud as he shared examples of David's leadership qualities. "Mr. Perfield is about we, not me. He is driven by mission and purpose... and is one of the most loyal and trustworthy people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He revels in the success of others. In David Perfield, you have a willing partner and leader in your pursuit of Courage, Humility, and Largeness of Heart. Together, your future is exceptionally bright." We couldn't agree more!

As David took the podium, he was indeed humble. As he thanked his wife Lisa, and daughters Anna and Lexi, his heartfelt emotion was apparent. He shared his thankfulness at being given the opportunity to come to Oldfields, and told the girls, "You are the reason why I am here...why our family chose to be here!" The students were visibly moved, with a girl or two seen shedding a tear.

Mr. Perfield's remarks resonated in the hearts of the audience as he explained why Oldfields is a fit both professionally and personally--the feeling of family, a warm and welcoming community, and a respectful and accepting culture. He shares our commitment to a school community that meets girls where they are--and then provides an educational experience that prepares them for an uncertain world after Oldfields.

David explained how the School will be developing a strategic plan that looks 3, 5, 10 years ahead and beyond that defines why an Oldfields education is relevant, why the world needs Oldfields, and why the world needs Oldfields girls.

The swearing in by Chair of the Board R. Augustus Edwards III P'95,'98 made it official! Click here to view. The day of celebration continued with a wonderful lunch, a Performing Arts Showcase, and an in-house riding show. The crisp, fall weather made dinner under the tent, live music, and s'mores around the fire pit as perfect as it can be.

It is an exciting time to be part of Oldfields School as we embrace time honored traditions that bind us while celebrating new beginnings that will move us into a bright future.
