The opportunity to learn and grow at a boarding school extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom, and this applies to our day students as well since they often stay for dinner, join for weekend activities, and even spend the night. A roommate from Rwanda, meals with your physics teacher, being a big sister to an incoming freshman, or practicing your goal kicks with your coach on the weekend—it all results in a deeper level of personal connection that opens doors (and minds) to bigger and broader opportunities for discovery.
Life Outside the Classroom
The perfect combination of structured community activities and necessary downtime make your days filled with meaningful experiences:
- Daily athletics and co-curricular activities get everyone moving. From competitive interscholastic team sports to yoga, from riding to fitness conditioning, there is something for everyone.
- Community lunches, held once a week, pair groups of girls with different faculty and staff members. Residential dinners alternate between arranged seating for fostering new friendships and informal meals where you can sit with your friends. Both allow plenty of time for conversation.
- Proctored study halls with peer tutors take place Sunday-Thursday, with older students earning the freedom to study in their rooms if they like.
- Weekend activities make the most of our ideal location near multiple cultural centers like Washington, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City as well as natural treasures like the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland beaches, and Appalachian Mountains, all within a few hours drive.
The Dorm Life Advantage
A cross between college and summer camp, dorm life is not only fun because you are surrounded by friends, but also the opportunities to learn from those late night conversations with girls from all over the world provide life lessons that can’t be taught in a classroom. The skills you develop here, from learning how to be a good roommate, to managing your time effectively, even doing your own laundry, will prepare you for successful college life in ways nowhere else could!
Inclusive Day Student Experience
With over 20% of our enrollment being day students, you will get to experience all the benefits that boarding school has to offer while staying right here in your hometown. You will be fully integrated into the on-campus family—often joining us early for breakfast and staying late for dinner and study hall. Yes, you will actually want to come to school on Saturday to participate in a weekend trip to the Smithsonian or to pick up a friend to stay at your house for the weekend. Day students are encouraged to spend the night during exam week, when there is inclement weather, or just for the fun of it.
The benefits of all students gaining a global perspective are more relevant now than ever. As an international student, you will not only be immersed in American culture, but also learn from girls from numerous countries like Rwanda, Peru, South Korea, and China. You are also given the opportunity to teach others about your culture. No education is complete without diverse perspectives and experiences that allow you to see the world in a new way.
