Earth Science (8th grade science)
This course examines the Earth as a system within itself and as a part of the solar system, the Milky Way Galaxy, and the universe. We will study the major factors that affect conditions on Earth, starting with basic physical principles and advancing to how the Earth affects us and how we affect it in return. What causes hurricanes and tornadoes? Why do volcanoes occur where they do? Should we be worried about earthquakes or asteroids? What else is out there to discover?
Building from the ground up, students will learn about geology, oceanography, and meteorology, including hands-on labs, projects, and writing assignments. We will explore the history of Earth, how our planet has changed over time, and how we understand the rest of the universe. The world is such a big place and we still have so much to learn!
