Chemistry Honors is designed much like an introductory college chemistry course in preparation for the AP Chemistry Exam in May and covers the equivalent of one full year of college-level general chemistry. The course is a rigorous math-based course with a laboratory component and is intended for students who have demonstrated a willingness to commit considerable time to study and completing assignments independently.
The relationships between the structure of matter and its properties and reactions are explored. There is an emphasis on quantitative descriptions of the behavior of matter and on the mathematical theories that explain the behavior. The development of problem-solving strategies and computational skills will be an important element of the course.
Prerequisites: Algebra II, Chemistry, and permission of the department chair
