Finding Your Literary Voice

In this course, we will read about, talk about, and write about voice in literary works. It is important to ask ourselves, who is speaking? Who is silenced? How does a character or narrator’s voice influence our reading of a narrative? How can we use our voices to make meaning from a text? To advocate for our positions? From diaries and novels to poetry and plays, we will explore texts from the 18th century to present day. This course will be discussion-based, so students are expected to complete the readings with interest, enthusiasm, and a desire to share. Additionally, students should expect to express their ideas about these texts in a variety of written modes, both formal and informal.

School student accounts will be debited at the start of the year for a Membean license.
