Directing for the Stage
Single Semester Course
This course is designed to introduce students to the principles and techniques of stage direction. Students will develop and hone their individual creative impulses, learn essential text analysis and dramaturgical skills, and get practical experience in rehearsal. Particular emphasis will be placed on the development of specific language skills to have command and clarity of ideas when speaking to actors about their work. Students will have the opportunity to expand their awareness of contemporary plays, playwrights, and professional directors while examining practices in the field today. Most importantly, student directors will articulate their unique individual points of view on a selection of contemporary plays as they discover what a play means to them and how that translates to a final performance piece.
