Single Semester Course

This course covers a variety of techniques and materials used in observational drawing. Course content will emphasize the development of formal drawing skills, focusing on objects and scenes rendered from life. Although most drawings will be completed using black and white media, several will delve into the use of color. Mediums will range from graphite pencil, charcoal and colored pencil to conté crayon, pen + ink, and chalk pastel. Subject matter will include a variety of still life, interior, landscape, portraiture and some conceptually-based projects. Students will supplement their learning with sketchbook practice and artist research.
