French III

Classes are conducted primarily in French. They are enhanced through the daily use of SmartBoard technology in all its aspects. Communication skills in all four language areas—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—are strongly developed. Students discuss at length the autobiographical movies La gloire de mon père and Le château de ma mère, by Yves Robert, based on two partial autobiographies by Marcel Pagnol, and complete AP guided worksheets at the same time. Works by painters like Ingres, Delacroix, Renoir, Le Caravage, and Monet are studied. Other movies that are discussed and studied with AP guided worksheets include Le petit Nicolas and Les vacances du Petit Nicolas by Laurent Tirard and La grande vadrouille by Gérard Oury. All movies are shown in French with French subtitles. Students are asked to write and correct short essays. Grammar is studied regularly and is taught using a wide variety of activities such as conversations, skits, cartoons, comic books, short excerpts of films, songs, paintings, games, Internet exercises, and multimedia lessons. The course helps students to acquire the necessary tools to conduct an in-depth analysis of the paintings and movies.
