Photography

This course introduces the fundamental techniques and aesthetic responsibilities of photography, from traditional analog roots to contemporary digital skills. Students learn to operate SLR-style cameras for proper exposure, using both film and digital capture methods, and learn appropriate workflows to transform film negatives into fine-prints in a traditional darkroom, including from film to files.

Course exercises ask the students to reflect internally and externally on congruent themes within their lives. The foundation of the course is based on technique, experimentation, and exploration. Students will build their contemporary art vocabulary and are exposed to diverse artists, art spaces, and genres. Students meet with working artists through artist talks and explore museums and galleries during field trips.
