Visual Arts

The Fine Arts have long been an essential part of an Oldfields education, starting when art study was taught by the School's founder, Anna Austen McCulloch in the 1870s. Oldfields seeks to foster the creative potential in every student, beginners and experienced alike, through a dynamic and diverse fine arts program. In our visual arts classes, we foster the development of critical thinking along with building technical skills in art. Our visual arts classes do this through discourse, writing and reflection on the creative process.

Course offerings in drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, applied design, and the digital arts allow our graduates to be accepted at top art schools such as the Rhode Island School of Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Pratt Art Institute, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
