Dear Oldfields Families,
To accommodate the absence of traditional competitive athletics, each Oldfields student will have the opportunity to participate in weekly activities throughout the fall season. With diverse options, students can pursue their passion or explore something new without commitment to a whole season. All activities will take place in small groups consisting of one coach to every nine (or less) students. Proper precautions, such as wearing an specific mask for after-school activities (two will be provided), physical distancing, and frequent sanitizing will be in place each afternoon.

Weekend Athletics As the Director of Athletics, I have been in close communication with representatives from our peer schools. As we navigate this challenging landscape, we will continue to reassess our ability to bring our schools together for friendly competition. Towards the end of the fall, we hope to safely partner with local schools in order to provide competitive opportunities for our students.

FAQs How does sign-up work? Each weekend, students will complete a sign-up form where they will be asked to pick their top two activities for the week. During Monday's advisory meeting, students will receive confirmation of their specific activity and where to meet.
YES! We encourage students to pick activities that they are passionate about or interested in learning.
Are the after-school athletics and activities mandatory? Yes, after school activities are part of the Oldfields School education program. We believe being active even in the absence of competitive sports is important to our students' overall well being, and to our mission.
Students will be given two after-school masks that will be washed each day by Oldfields staff. Each activity group will require a specific health and safety protocol. Any time students and/or activity leaders are interacting less than six feet apart, a mask will be mandatory.
Shared school-issued equipment and/or supplies will be cleaned and disinfected after every use. When possible, we encourage students and activity leaders to use their personal equipment and/or supplies.
How will contact sports like soccer or basketball be safe for my daughter? Traditional contact sports and activities will be run similarly to a skills clinic. Students will be physically distant while learning and engaging in sport-specific drills.
Like most events in the weekend activities schedule, our weekend athletic offerings are optional but highly encouraged!
The goal is for Oldfields to participate in the IAAM Interscholastic Conference during the winter season. We will continue to monitor the current situation and adhere to CDC guidelines and Maryland State Health Department recommendations
We believe that canceling the fall season will give our students a stronger chance to participate in competitive sports during the winter and spring seasons. Our decision to opt out of IAAM conference play for the fall season does not have an impact on Oldfields IAAM membership or future athletic seasons.
Club team participation outside of school will be decided on a case by case basis. Students are required to fill out an off-campus activity request form and submit the completed form to Ms. Davis, Director of Athletics, who, in collaboration with an administrative panel, will decide if students may participate in activities outside of school.
As we embark on this unique start to our school year, I am excited about this new chapter in Oldfields athletics. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please contact me.
