Dear Oldfields Alumnae,
I hope my letter finds you reflecting, growing, and learning from all the events of the last few weeks. As we all have watched the move for social change unfold, it is clear that there is work to do. The entire Oldfields School community has the ability to play a vital role in supporting the necessary diversity, equity, and inclusion work that is essential to Each Girl's Success.
Our Head of School David Perfield has been engaged in constructive and uncomfortable conversations with students, faculty, staff, alumnae, and the board of trustees—all in an effort to heighten awareness at Oldfields and recognize the need for change and action.
Change will not happen overnight, but our journey has begun. David and his team are committed to leading us through the work that needs to be done, as are Trustees past and present. My hope is that our Oldfields community will support this important work every step of the way.
At this time, your support of Oldfields is more important than ever. Stay connected. Tell us about your personal experiences. Share your thoughts about Oldfields and her future. Show your commitment to the School and make a donation to the Oldfields Fund. Or, better yet, think about doing all of the above! It is time for all of us to stand for equity and justice. We hope you are as committed to change as Oldfields is, and will join us in the journey.
Stay well, and be kind. Lulu Laubenstein '72
A Unique End to the School Year In case you haven't seen it, here's a look back at the special Class of 2020 and their unique send-off. Oldfields' magic was felt worldwide.
The Oldfields Experience allows girls to discover and to be who they are through a curriculum designed not only to achieve academic success, but also to build self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-expression We remain committed to making our program better, stronger, and more relevant in this ever-changing, complex world.
Today, June 30, is the end of our fiscal year. Please consider making a gift to The Oldfields Fund. Your support makes a difference, no matter the size of your gift.
Be Inspired by Ahoefa '20 When you look at Ahoefa Nanevi '20, one of Oldfields' newest alumnae, you see an exemplary honor student, a confident and poised dancer, the witty leader of the musical group Gross Notes, and a volleyball player with a fabulous serve. Ahoefa is a young woman any school would be lucky to call their own. However, her world was very different four years ago when she was searching for a school and a place to call home. Meet Madi '22 On Sunday, April 9, 2017, Madilyn Geidel '22, then age 12, hosted her first official Hearts for Hope event—the Race for Hope. Months prior, Madi learned that a young family friend, Sully, had been diagnosed with juvenile neuroblastoma. Her desire to help her friend motivated her to create Hearts for Hope, whose mission is to raise money for those in need, while bringing families together for a day of fun. Hearts for Hope doesn't limit itself to one cause, but rather hosts fundraising events in and around the local Sykesville, Maryland, community to support a variety of charitable entities. All net proceeds are presented directly to the pre-selected charity for that event. Established in December 2016 as a non-profit organization, Hearts for Hope has hosted four events, raising over $15,000 in total. Click here to read more >
