Fall Family Weekend is always a huge crowd favorite, but add the installation of a new head of school to the mix, and you really have a celebration!

Parents, family, and friends arrived on campus on October 12 to experience a day in the life of an Oldfields student. Those of you who were able to join us know it is a real treat to attend all six classes with your daughter, and to meet her teachers, advisor, and, of course, her friends!

This year's crowd was larger than ever due to the installation of David Perfield as the new Head of School which took place in the gymnasium at 11 AM.

Baltimore Gathering at the Obrechts'!
Image

Alumnae, parents, grandparents, and friends all met at the home of Ingrid and Don Obrecht P'16 on Thursday, October 25, for a lively Baltimore Gathering! If you were looking for good company, fabulous food, and a boatload of positive energy, the Obrecht house was the place to be. You know it's a good party when the decibel level approaches Green and White Night, and no one wants to leave. Many thanks to Don and Ingrid, not only for sharing their daughter Lissie with us as a student, but also for a party none of us will ever forget!

Oldfields Girls in College Athletics

Oldfields is so proud of our young alumnae who are competing in college athletics. Athletics is central to the Oldfields educational philosophy, and we are happy to see our Alumnae continue their athletic careers through their college journeys and beyond.

STEAM Competition

CONGRATULATIONS to our STEAM student representatives! They won the "Go For Launch!" event sponsored by Higher Orbits, https://higherorbits.org/.

Each team had to define and design a space experiment and present to a panel of judges. One of the judges was astronaut, Don Thomas. Their space experiment was titled, "Regeneration of Botrylloides Leachii (Tunicates) in Microgravity." If they win the next division, their experiment will be launched on the International Space Station!

OS Riders Learn From the Best
Image

Oldfields Riding Program is known for providing wonderful clinics where our students and the surrounding community have the opportunity to learn from the best of the best, but the two-day experience with successful international trainer and instructor, Daniel Stewart, was something we had not experienced before. Learn more about Daniel >

As one of the world's leading experts on equestrian sport psychology, athletics, and performance, Daniel coached the OS riders on how to "pressure proof" their riding. The clinics went well beyond the typical riding lesson, with workshops on performance psychology and how the brain works under pressure. Another session, Rider Boot Camp, utilized the space and equipment in the indoor arena to put the girls through quite a work out!

Faculty Spotlight
Image

Oldfields is very fortunate to have Jude Zhu as a faculty member for the past 5 years. In addition to his skills as a math teacher, his undergraduate work at East China Normal University, where he studied Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and his master's in education from University of Pennsylvania, prove incredibly valuable as an English as a Second Language teacher. He and his wife, Wenjie, who is also a teacher at Oldfields, also play a huge role in acclimating our international students from China.

Jude is also the varsity badminton coach and led the OS team to end last season with a championship, as well as runner-up, over the past five years. In addition, he is advisor to the newly formed Math Team and he enjoys leading May Programs such as Remarkable Robotics and Flight.
