Oldfields Comes Out on Top!

The results are in! Thanks to you, Oldfields raised more dollars per student in 2017-2018 than any other independent school in the Baltimore area!

Each year, the local independent schools compare their fundraising statistics. In 2017-2018 (you can't be thanked enough!), Oldfields outpaced all other schools in annual giving to The Oldfields Fund by 77%, an amazing accomplishment.

Furthermore, Oldfields was fifth of fourteen schools in dollars per student in our endowment. We were also one of only five schools to achieve 100% participation by faculty and staff in annual giving.

We may be small but we are mighty!

Thank you again for giving back to Oldfields!

Green and White Night

One of Oldfields' favorite traditions for sure, as the video above demonstrates! All new students, faculty, and staff have been assigned their color, and the competition is on between the Green Team and the White Team. Both teams found a Thing-a-ma-bob, so we have a tie to start off the 18-19 school year. The White Team won last year. Who do you think is going to win this year?

Celebrating Founder's Day

On September 5th we honored Anna Austen McCulloch, Oldfields School's founder. The School's 152 year story was compelling from the very beginning. In a video highlighting the early years of the school (click here to view) our community learned about the strength and determination of a 43 year-old mother of eight, who was uprooted from a comfortable life in Staten Island, NY, and found herself on a "rustic" farm in Glencoe, MD. Read more here!

Oldfields Girls Experience Shakespeare

To kick off their reading of one of Shakespeare's best-known plays, students in Mrs. DiGalbo's Grade 12 British Literature class attended a live performance of Macbeth at the Folger Theater in Washington, DC, on Saturday, September 22, 2018. The performers were accompanied by the Folger Consort and the result was a stand-out production.

In the classroom, students demonstrated their understanding through a discovery activity meant to identify production choices they observed during the performance. Later in their study of Macbeth, they will compare the Folger performance to a production of the play filmed live in 2015 at the Globe Theater in London.

We are grateful to have a learning environment that allows experiences like the trip to The Folger to be part of our curriculum!
