 Oldfields Alumnae Day
April 28, 2018
You'll be green with envy if you miss the drinks, food and fun for all!
Don't be left out, it's only a month away!
You May Be Eligible for Marian Culbertson Burke '63's art prize at the Museum of Arts and Design!

A new annual award that reinforces Museum of Art and Design's commitment to celebrating the next generation of artists working in and advancing the disciplines that shaped the American studio craft movement, the Burke Prize is an unrestricted $50,000 award made to a professional artist under the age of forty-five working in glass, fiber, clay, metals, or wood.

Named for Marian Culbertson Burke '63 and her husband Russell Burke, two passionate collectors of craft and longtime supporters of MAD, the Burke Prize will be determined by an annual jury of professionals in the fields of art, craft, and design following an open application process.

If you are under 45 years of age and working in crafts, click here to find out how you can apply! Marian would love nothing more than to award The Burke to an Oldfields alumna!

Snowy Days at Oldfields

It always feels a little colder when our girls are away, but this spring break was ridiculous! Happy to report the sun has come out, the students have returned, and the campus kids (plus a few adults) made the most of the beautiful snow on Graduation Hill. #springsnow #makethebestofit

Developing Future Leaders
Baltimore Girls' School Leadership Coalition

Not everyone can be all-school president or captain of the basketball team, but the beauty of being a small school is that every student does have ample opportunity to develop and experience leadership. Being a dorm prefect, running a school club, giving school tours for Admissions, sitting on the Student Judiciary Board - just a few of the ways our girls learn what it takes to manage a group of people and have responsibility for accomplishing a predetermined goal.

It is a wonderful transformation to behold when a student uncovers something they care about and steps up to lead. One such catalyst to this transformation is Oldfields' participation in a wonderful local organization called The Baltimore Girls' School Leadership Coalition (BGSLC).

BGSLC meets monthly and is comprised of six area girls' schools; Oldfields, Bryn Mawr, Garrison Forest, Roland Park Country, St. Timothy's, and St. Paul's School for Girls. Read more >

Oldfields Riders take a Trip to Aiken!

Three OS Riders,  Emma Lach '18, Libby Shannon '19, and Sydney Frieberg '20, are riding and competing in Aiken for the next 2 weeks! Go OS Riding! Britt Roden coached Emma and Allure to place in a competitive Novice division at Full Gallop Farm. Ann Thal coached Sydney and her horse, Beste 4 Me MRF, to ribbons in a classic at Highfields. We are so proud of our riders! All their hard work and dedication really showed!

6th Annual Oldfields Half Marathon

We are proud and excited to once again support Back on My Feet Baltimore by hosting the Oldfields Half Marathon, Relay, and Kids K on April 7.

Our students not only can run the race, but also work the water stops and facilitate the Kids K. The best part is the inspiration they get from the incredible runners who have overcome homelessness using running as a tool to restore confidence, strength, and self-esteem.

It's not too late to register!  If you are in the area, join us!

Do you know a girl still looking for
the right school?

As Oldfields alumnae, you are an incredible resource to the Admission team! Word-of-mouth is still one of the top ways we bring wonderful new girls into our community.

So don't be shy! Tell your friends about us! You can even forward this newsletter to them, and let them know we would love to have them join us on April 3 - or anytime that is convenient for them - to learn about what makes Oldfields such an exceptional high school experience.

Call us at 410-472-4800 to let us know if you know a potential Oldfields girl. We can't thank you enough for your support!

Arts Day #2

Our second Arts Day of the year began with a wonderful slideshow (click on photo above to view) from the Visual Arts department that highlighted some of our amazing student artwork!

The afternoon was extra special as students were able to experience master classes in dance, workshops in jewelry design and scratchboard ink design, and various theatre performance techniques. These days are especially insightful for those students who don't regularly participate in the arts as it gets them outside their comfort zones!

The highlight is the Student Talent Show which always brings some performers out of the woodwork. This year the crowd favorite was a rap duet by a new mid-year student, Jessica Fan, and the Green Team dragon mascot! Never a dull moment!
