Do you really think teachers have the summer off? This summer, in addition to preparing and updating lesson plans, reading professional material, writing education blogs, and developing new courses (Sculpture, Astronomy, and Topics in Contemporary Society) some of our faculty were on the road to attend national conferences and workshops:

• Chair of the English Department, Whitney Schultz, visited Amherst college for a seminar titled "Teaching Emily Dickinson", as well as participated in "Shakespeare's Tool Box" conducted by the American Shakespeare Center.
• English teacher, Priscilla DiGalbo, also brushed up on her Shakespeare, attending the conference with Ms. Schultz.
• Director of College Counseling, Marissa Margosian, toured ten universities in Washington. She also worked with Thai Royal Scholars. These are students who have been sent abroad by the Thailand government to study through their PhDs and bring back innovative ideas to aid in the technological and economic development of their country.
• Five additional teachers attended College Board conferences for updates on teaching AP preparation in Calculus AB, Calculus BC, English, History, Biology, and Physics.

At Oldfields, continuing education is an integral part of our teachers' professional development to improve their content knowledge, competence, effectiveness and skill.
