Top 5 Views of Campus

Introduction to Jadisha '22 – Jadisha is an 11th grade student leader who could be considered a “busy-bee” around campus with all that she is involved in. Jadisha is a leader on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Committee, a prefect for her dorm, a member of National Honors Society, and a leader in clubs, including Black Alliance Club, Student Ambassadors, and Gross Notes. While Jadisha is always giving back to our community, her blog post depicts her love for taking a moment to pause and appreciate the beauty our campus provides her each day. I hope that you will enjoy reading about what Jadisha considers the five most beautiful views on campus, and that her words encourage you to take time during your day to pause and find beauty!

As a boarding student at Oldfields, I spend most of my time on campus. This means that I get to see a lot of beautiful views as the weather changes around here. Oldfields has some of the best sunsets I have ever seen (they are definitely Instagram-worthy!). That is why today I wanted to share with you what I believe are the top five prettiest views of campus.

5. View from Chicken Hill/The Barn

The view from Chicken Hill

A lot of our riders love to take photos as they make their way to and from the barn. The views that they see while they ride are breathtaking. I would bet that the horses love their views throughout the day, too!

The fall seasons at Oldfields are filled with many shades of orange, red, and brown. The students love spending time carving pumpkins and putting up spooky decorations for everyone to enjoy. Our riders enjoy nice walks around campus with their horses, and when Halloween comes, they even dress them up in their own costumes!

4. Old House

Old House is the original building on campus when the school was founded in 1867. It continues to be the heart of our campus today. Many students love to enjoy the amazing sunsets that can be seen from the top of the steps before entering the theater.

3. The Athletic Fields

Athletic Fields at Oldfields School

The athletic fields are used for many things. A lot of students use them for practices or games with their sports team, or for Spirit Games like capture the flag or kickball. But during the weekend, the most popular activity to do at night is to stargaze from this area of campus. Bring a blanket when you join us on campus so that you can spread out to enjoy the natural light show happening around us! This is truly something one-of-a-kind that you cannot find living in the city!

2. Commons Lawn

Camp Fire on Commons Lawn

The lawn outside of Commons has been a go-to place for many events, activities, picnics, bonfires, and gatherings. Everyone loves to sit down by the shade of the trees and admire the colorful leaves in the fall and the budding blossoms in the spring. Some of Oldfields oldest traditions such as Garden Party and Graduation Banquet are held on the Commons Lawn.

1. View from Jane House

Sunset

I might be a bit biased by choosing this view as my favorite, as Jane House is my dorm. However, because we are up the hill from the other dorms, our view is very pretty. You can see all of campus at sundown, making Oldfields look beautifully lit with red and pink colors. Once the sun sets, you will get a great view of the moon and the stars at night. The few stairs you have to walk to get to Jane are a small price to pay for a beautiful view.

Although these are only some of the beautiful places on our campus, we hope that you will join us and explore all of it yourself. Who knows, you may even have a few places of your own that you would like to add to my list. The beauty around our campus will definitely be worth the visit-- trust me!
