| The first phase of the plan, which began over the summer of 1996, included the installation of a computer network that connected all of our offices, classrooms, and library. At the same time, we initiated a laptop program for faculty and students. All of our teaching faculty have school laptops. Today, all subject areas continue to work on integrating technology more fully into their respective curricula. With the addition of SMARTBoards we are better able to cater to the needs of students that have different learning styles, while making class time more engaging and fun for the students. |
| For technology to be truly effective, it must be available when and where students need it. With laptops, students have access to the campus-wide network and the Internet from every classroom. Laptop computers also give students the flexibility to begin an assignment in class, work on it throughout the day, and finish it at home or in the dormitory. |

| All students and staff are able to access their school email accounts from outside of the school, using Outlook Web Access. We do not grant access to the network from outside of the school. |
| With the increased availability of information and technology, there is a greater responsibility to educate students about the appropriate use of the data and tools that they are given. In addition, we have developed an Acceptable Use Policy for the Oldfields community. All students and parents are required to sign it. We encourage parents and students to read this policy together carefully before signing it. |
| We strongly encourage you to insure the laptop through a policy specifically designed for laptop computers or through your homeowner’s policy. Insurance information can be acquired from the Technology Office. |
