In addition to the extra help offered by the faculty, Oldfields has a Learning Specialist who collaborates with faculty to ensure the best academic program and support for each girl. Throughout the admission process, if a student has a current educational evaluation or has had academic difficulty in the past, the Learning Specialist is involved in the review of a student’s application for admission. She reads the student’s file, interprets the educational testing, and if the student is enrolled, she creates an Oldfields Accommodation Plan for the student. This plan outlines for the student, her parents, advisor, and teachers, the accommodations necessary for her success at Oldfields. The School fully complies with the regulations stipulated by Educational Testing Service and ACT throughout the standardized testing process during the sophomore, junior, and senior years. Some of the accommodations provided for in an Oldfields Accommodation Plan include, but are not limited to: extended time on tests and in-class assignments, testing in a separate work area, using a computer for tests, having a “note buddy”, having a reader for tests and quizzes, and preferential seating in class. The students are encouraged to be self-advocates in getting academic support at Oldfields. If a student qualifies for an Oldfields Accommodation Plan, she is involved in the creation and implementation of the plan.
