Looking Around the World for Oldfields Girls...

The Caribbean - November 2011

Associate Director of Admission Kendra Grinnage visited the Carribbean in November 2011 in search of Oldfields girls.  Ms. Grinnage attended school fairs in Port of Spain, Trinidad; and Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Ms. Grinnage even brought Oldfields sunglasses for the Carribbean girls!

Ankara and Instanbul, Turkey - November 2011

Anneke Skidmore, Director of Boarding Admission, spent November 15 – 20, 2011 attending school visits, several fairs, and meeting with students in both Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey.  Ankara, the capital of Turkey, was a really interesting city!  While there, the group visited a public school, several private schools, and a charter school campus. Everyone was treated to a wonderful reception at the Chief Deputy of the US Embassy’s home.

While in Istanbul, all of the attendees visited several more schools (primarily private schools affiliated with universities), attended several fairs, and had a reception overlooking the Bosporus River.

Ms. Skidmore (above, far left) met several Turkish students and spoke with representatives from a variety of different schools.  The students that she interviewed are really interested in finding a school that emphasizes the same sense of community and caring environment that Oldfields provides.

In Saudi Arabia - October 13, 2010

I am now in Saudi Arabia where , getting off the plane, a mother was struggling with 4 bags and a baby. All the men just walked by. I helped her and tried to explain how I knew it was hard to travel with little ones, which, of course, she did not understand. They made Americans go though a few more tasks in immigration, but being a woman might have triggered a few more hoops so I just compared Blackberry phones with the customs officer who wanted mine since it got worldwide coverage. We just laughed together.

More tomorrow folks but just wanted to say have a wonderful FFW. I'll be thinking of you.
