Ansley Smithwick, who has been at Oldfields for 37 years and who so famously embodies the culture of this wonderful School, has become Interim Head of School as of December 16, 2016, with the enthusiastic endorsement of the entire Oldfields Community.
The Board of Trustees has granted a leave of absence to Parny Hagerman, who had announced in October that she would be moving back to New England to be with her family in June 2017. Parny’s timetable has moved up, and Ansley has ably stepped into the role of Head of School. We’ll never forget Parny’s nine years at Oldfields, and we wish her all the best as she moves into the next chapter in her life.
Well-loved by generations of alumnae and by current students, parents, faculty, staff, and trustees, Ansley is not only a skilled administrator and educator, but is also a kind and compassionate leader who personifies the feeling of family and the culture of kindness for which Oldfields is so widely known.
As we bid Parny a fond farewell, we turn in confidence and affection to Ansley, in whose hands the School and its students will thrive, as the Board and the Head Search Committee seek the next permanent Head of School to lead Oldfields into its bright future.
