Reflections on Oldfields

At Oldfields, we always talk about how we pride ourselves on our “feeling of family.” Whether in the classroom or on the playing field, we strive to push our girls to the next level, so when they take their final walk down graduation hill, they are doing so as confident, empowered women.

Parent Reflections

Oldfields was our daughter's first choice after visiting two co-ed and two all girls schools. We found the all girls school environment to be the best scenario for academics. This environment has allowed our daughter to not be intimidated by the boys and to become a more self-confident person. In addition, this led her to become more of a leader in the classroom, in the dormitory, and on the playing field. She has come out of her shell and isn't the shy person she used to be. As a result, this leadership and athleticism has guided her heart to pursue a military career path and ROTC in college.

After considerable searching, Oldfields has turned out to be the perfect fit for our daughter. The single gender model with individualized attention and allowance for personal expression and creativity has allowed her to thrive. The guidance she has received and the relationships established at Oldfields will benefit her for life.

The receptive environment at Oldfields offers an amazing day-by-day transition from being away from the "little world" at home and focusing on new possibilities geared by an endless desire to succeed.

Teacher Reflections

I give the girls a platform, a stage, a theatre where they can feel safe and create! I love watching the girls take hold of a specific character and make it their own. It is exciting to see someone who has never been on stage before blossom! I have seen many girls over the years gain confidence not only in their performance but in themselves. That is one of the many reasons I love working at Oldfields.

Alumnae Reflections

Oldfields did everything it possibly could when preparing me for college. They supported me, believed in me, and help me through my academic struggles. Oldfields gave me the courage to always be myself, and has given me the best friendships that will stay with me for a lifetime.

I can say that Oldfields really did prepare me for college. I can see that I'm using skills that I learned at School such as being outgoing (yes, it is a skill), asking for help, being organized, and not being afraid of trying something new.

Oldfields made it okay to be myself. The faculty never told me what I could or could not achieve, rather encouraged and supported my efforts in wanting to grow as an individual and as a young woman. I never felt pressured to live up to anyone’s expectations other then my own and I think that is why I have such drive in everything I do. Knowing that there was always someone at Oldfields to remind me how much I mattered made me feel worthwhile and appreciated for simply being me. Later on in life, if I am privileged enough to send my future daughter to Oldfields, I cannot imagine a greater feeling then giving back the same feeling I once received. Oldfields will always have a special place in my heart because I know I will always be connected to someone or something through my experiences there.
