Oldfields Family Gathering

Deedie Clark Bouscaren '71, Ryan Kirk, Susie Hadden Lawrence '65, Anne Finney P'97, Dee Allen '64, Susan West Ross '64, Ansley Smithwick, Bev Wilson Robinson '64

"Oldfields gave me a confidence in myself that has

taken me through my whole life."

It was unanimous! Every single alumna at Susie Hadden Lawrence's potluck supper in Chestnut Hill, MA, on March 23, 2017, said the same thing when Susie '65 asked them, "What did Oldfields do for you?"

Susie's party is one we'll never forget – from the Fire Department arriving after a fireplace malfunction to the wonderful back and forth of conversation around the dinner table until nearly 11:00 at night!

Anne Finney P'97, Ansley Smithwick, Susan West Ross '64, three heroic firemen, David Lawrence

Dee Allen '64, Deedie Clark Bouscaren '71, Bev Wilson Robinson'64, and Susan West
Ross '64 joined Interim Head of School Ansley Smithwick, Director of Development

Anne Finney P'97, and Associate Director of Development Ryan Kirk at Susie's beautiful house for a delicious potluck supper (ask Deedie for her dessert recipe!) and lots of laughter and stories.

There is nothing Oldfields girls like more than getting together, and we love being a part of it! Many thanks go to Susie for such a great idea for a get-together and for hosting us all!

The Tradition of the

Senior Speech

Get ready, parents! As we enter the home stretch of the school year, the activities and traditions come fast and furious.  What a year of growth and change it has been! Fortunately, we never lose sight of our mission which is nowhere more evident than in the words of current students during their senior presentations. The speeches can be about almost anything, but often are stories of personal growth and life events that have shaped our girls. Some are funny, some will break your heart, all are worth our undivided attention. We learn something new about each and every girl who steps up to the microphone. Senior speeches are undoubtedly one of the most wonderful, enlightening, uplifting, and  emotional  traditions at Oldfields School. See for yourself....

Grandparents Day is April 7!

One of the all-time best days on campus is when the girls get to show off their accomplishments and their school to their grandparents! Even the most nonchalant teenager shows her softer side when a grandparent shows up.  Grandparents love seeing first-hand what a typical day at OS is like for their special granddaughter!

Academic Update

Here are just a few of the "extras" that were part of our students' learning experience this past month:

  • Jose Antonio Bowen, President of Goucher College, gave an unbelievable "TED style" talk on the value of a liberal arts education - and played jazz piano for us! What an amazing insight and vision he shared for the future of education!
  • A total of 28 students signed up to take 56 AP exams in May. That's a lot of hard work coming to fruition! Good luck, girls!
  • Arts Day # 2 in early March involved a visual art slide show, afternoon workshops, a student talent show, and an evening of spoken word and song at the Tidbit Coffee House. We wish you all could have been there, but here's a glimpse of what our girls can do!

Semi-formal Around the Corner!

Saturday, April 22, is the big day!  The girls have already signed up along with their guests, and the final touches are coming together for the  "Evening in Paris."  Thanks goes to Head of School Ansley Smithwick for making tickets free this year!

The Oldfields Parent Association is making the evening even more special by providing opportunities for the girls to purchase corsages and boutonnieres, and attend pre and post prom events that will include a fully stocked candy bar among other refreshments and firepits on Commons Lawn.
