Merit Scholarships
Recipients of the Awards described below may receive up to $27,000 to assist in covering the School’s comprehensive fee.
The Oldfields School Centers of Excellence Awards
These awards are given to exceptional students who are passionate about pursuing either the visual arts, performing arts, or riding. These students must also display noteworthy personal qualities as measured by extracurricular interests, character, and motivation.
The Anna Austen McCulloch Award
The Anna Austen McCulloch Award, named for the founder of Oldfields School, is given to students who have the potential to best represent the School’s motto: Courage, Humility, and Largeness of Heart.
The Oldfields School Legacy Award
For a student whose mother or grandmother is an alumna of the School, the Oldfields School Legacy Award is given based on her academics, character, and a commitment to reaching potential.
To apply for any of the Oldfields School Merit Scholarships, all candidates must complete the admission process by February 1. In addition, merit applicants must write a 300-500 word essay indicating which scholarship they are applying for and describing their goals for their first year at Oldfields School, and how their life’s experiences have prepared them to achieve those goals. This essay is also due February 1.
The Admission Committee will review all applicants to determine a small pool of finalists from which the winners will be selected by a scholarship committee. In order for the scholarship to continue each year a student is enrolled, the recipient is required to remain in good academic and behavioral standing, be a positive, contributing member of the School community, and, if applicable, continue in her area of pursuit.
Applicants are encouraged to complete the financial aid application process as well, so that need-based awards can be determined, if appropriate.
